2016 has a lot to offer when it comes to shows and movies. The fall season began with a hoard of new TV shows. While it is difficult to pick just 10 shows, nonetheless someone has to do the impossible task.

An American fantasy comedy series by Mike Schur, the series stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. This unique comedy is about what a makes a good person. The story follows Eleanor Shellstrop who enters the afterlife, and finds herself at the good place instead of the bad place, where she supposedly belongs. The quirky show has an edge to its humour and a good message along with a strong cast.

The show takes inspiration from the 1973 movie of the same name. And, to a certain extent on the sequel Futureworld of 1976. It takes place in the fictional Westworld, a technologically advanced theme park populated by synthetic androids. Westworld caters to a high-end ‘guests’ who can do whatever they want in the park without fear of retaliation from the ‘hosts’. The show is a hit for HBO that drew a lot of viewership.

NBC’s second show on the list is the family dramedy, This Is Us. It is one of the few shows of 2016 that has tongues wagging. What strikes best about the show is the emotional depth and the blend that it creates with humour. It has definitely caught the eye of the industry as it manages to bag three Golden Globes nominations. This Is Us is taking the audience by the storm.

The eight- episode mini TV series on HBO explores a New York City murder case. The racial, cultural, and political undertones of the case are brought to the fore. While the show gave some of the best episodes, some of them lack the desired focus.

Nevertheless, the show is stolen by the performances of Riz Ahmed and John Turturro. The series scored three Golden Globes nominations this year.

This Netflix series had everyone at the edge of the seat. The show is one stop for all your Netflix love. The show has barely eight episodes but it makes up for it in mystery, the 80s nostalgia, and the sci-fi factor. The crème de la crème is the cast with Winona Ryder, and new young faces filled to the brim with talent.

The most discussed original TV drama on social media; it has fans waiting for the second season. The show grabs two Golden Globes nominations.

The show anchors on the performances of Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, both getting nominations for the Golden Globes. For some reason, the show is the most under watched show of the year. However, it will have two short seasons to give it a deserving adieu.

No one can deny the magic of this show that still keeps us glued to the screens. Albeit the sixth season was not quite as challenging as the earlier ones but it was more pleasing to the audience.

Despite that little dip, the show brings the magic of big screen to the idiot box. To no one’s surprise it still remains fan favourites, and deserves all due credit. It surely wins the throne of TV series even after six seasons.

The end of Breaking Bad was a sad affair for the fans, but to their joy, 2016 came out with its sequel. The show caters to the lovers of Breaking Bad. It moves back and forth from a hilarious angle to sad truths in the life of Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill.

However, the show fails to reach the stature of its predecessor. All one can hope for is a boost for a show that holds a special place for so many Breaking Baddicts.

FX takes a risk in coming out with a non-traditional shows like Donald Grover’s Atlanta. It gives both a hilarious and depressing spin to the issues of race, gender, and identity. The unique take on such topics is what gives it a top two slot.

Unfortunately, that which makes it great is also the reason that it garners less attention. However, the show beats all odds and has nominations for two Golden Globes.

FX claims another top spot and this time it gets the crown itself. At first, there were apprehensions regarding The People v. O.J. Simpson. However, there was curiosity about the novelty it was bringing to the table. The show broke records with meticulous performances and its creative liberties. It wonderfully captures the deep buried details of the case and observes the media ruckus around it. The cherry on top is the care with which the underlying racial tones of the case are put forward. The show gets nomination for four Golden Globes this year.
