It takes great courage to go against the norm,  to fight for what you believe in and to stand out. Being a minority requires a heart of a warrior and their fight is historic. This is the story of 6 such courageous transgender who defied norms and are now ready to make a smashing entry into a conservative society like India.

It’s the 6 Pack Band we are referring to.  It was an initiative by Yash Raj Film’s Youth Wing headed by Ashish Patel. About 200 people were auditioned from which 6 were chosen namely, Asha Jagtap, Bhavika Patil, Chandni Suvarnakar, Fida Khan, Komal Jagtap, and Ravina Jagtap.

They made their debut with “Hum hain happy” – a rendition of Pharrell Williams’s “Happy” The song was launched on January 6th this year with 1.4 billion views on youtube. Following which they did a music video with Sonu Nigam, “sab rabde bande” and finally with the Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.

The song “Ae Raju” is about fighting discrimination with regard to transgender community. This song made by Brooke Bond in association with Yash Raj Film’s Youth Wing has enabled the group to make yet another remarkable come back with a social message on accepting what is not acceptable.

Hrithik Roshan said that he is extremely proud to dance to the tunes of this song as he feels that the band has a valid message to convey through their songs.  “Ae Raju” is a famous phrase used by the Hijra community and Hrithik is seen encouraging the 6 people to recognise their inner spirit of heroism.  For Hrithik this has been a fun experience working with them.

In Hrithik’s own words, “I’ve been following the Brooke Bond Red Label 6-pack Band and when I heard that the band is creating a meaningful message in a fun, entertaining way, I had to be a part of it. Shooting with them was an amazing experience”.

The band plans to release one music video on the 6th of every month with each of their songs covering the experiences of the transgender community. The song “Happy hain” conveyed a tolerant society where hijras too have the privilege of being happy. “Sab rabde bande” focuses more on the equality of every human being as all are created for equal rights by God.

It is the desire in the hearts of the 6 people in the band who feels that people must be accepted irrespective of their orientation and not be outlawed.

Even though a part of our country is conservative it is a matter of joy to know that there are people who want to help those who are going through identity crisis. To a hopeful and helpful India!!!
