Team India is without any specialist coach for the last several months. Cricket commentator Ravi Shastri had earlier been appointed team director but his tenure came to end immediately after the conclusion of ICC World T20. Now BCCI wishes to appoint a full-fledged specialist coach for the team.

Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag are contender for chief coach of Indian Cricket Team. While BCCI has approached Rahul Dravid for this role, Sehwag has shown his interest for the post.

Both were spectacular in their own ways of batting style. But the question is who will India’s Next cricket coach? Among several names, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag seem to be front-runners for the post.

Virender Sehwag has openly expressed his desire to coach team India on social media. The dashing batman retweeted several tweets of his fans citing him as India’s future cricket coach. Contrarily, Rahul Dravid is maintaining stunt silence over the issue.

Rahul Dravid has recently donned the hat of coach while mentoring India A and Under-19 teams. The wall excelled in both roles to the best of his abilities. India’s U-19 team reached into the final under his immaculate mentorship but lost the final in Dhaka.

 “Anything that comes back to you needs to be weighed with lot of consideration, not only in terms of whether you feel you want to do it but also time that is involved in doing lot of these things – what does it entail and what does it require, can you devote time and energy, anything that you would want to do, you want to ensure you are completely 100% focused on it”, said the sobered Rahul Dravid to PTI when asked to react on his prospect of coaching team India.

There is no doubt that Dravid will give cent percent dedication and commitment to whatever job he takes. The wall, pseudonym, just doesn’t mean that he could stall balls in test cricket but also to stand by with his players when they need him the most as a role model, idol or the coach.

The unpredictability is the highlight of Virender Sehwag. You never know how he reacts to a particular situation. With many youngsters grew up watching Sehwag’s scintillating batting across formats, there is no doubt that his style of playing has immensely inspired several of them. His style of attacking the opponent from the very first ball has ignited the mind of several batsmen to play like that.

Forget the technique and nitty-gritty aspect. But when Sehwag is at the helm of affairs, he makes it sure that things go according to plan. His intrepid attitude on and off the field will definitely infuse a sense of fighting approach inside the youngsters. With 2 triple centuries in test cricket and a ODI double century in his kitty, along with more than 15 years of vast experience in Cricket, Sehwag could be the appropriate man to coach India.

When Will India Get a New Full Time Coach?

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said, “Before taking any call on any player we have to discuss that within BCCI who we want to hire for the next two or three years till the 2019 World Cup, and who could be the best in the interest of Indian cricket. But I would like to assure you that we would pick the right person for the right job at the right time”.

Currently IPL tournament is going on, once it concludes India will go to the Caribbean Islands to play a test series against West Indies. It is speculated that India might get its new coach by that time. According to sources, the Cricket Advisory Committee of BCCI, comprising of former players VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly has been asked to pick a right coach for team India.

Both Dravid or Sehwag will be apt for the role of team India’s cricket coach. The biggest challenge for either of them or any other future coach of Indian cricket team will be to groom youngsters in such a way that they don’t choke at big matches. Over the last few months, India have faced several big defeats at ICC World Cup 2015 semi final, World T20 2016 final and also ICC U-19 World Cup held a few months back. India need to create winning moment at big tournaments as well as they need to win away test matches also outside the subcontinent against tough opponents.
