Donald Trump: A President or a Sexual Predator?

Trump’s American values of racism, misogyny, and bigotry.

David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Anton Yelchin, and Gene Wilder are the celebrities who left us this year. Each loss made us sigh in grief, “Could this year get any worse?” Looks like God was really listening, and He got the last laugh. He got his opportunity in the United States Presidential Election 2016, and He gave it His all.

The Republican candidate for the election is none other than Donald Trump.

The candidate Trump is identified as an American businessman, television producer, author, and a politician. The real Donald Trump is a misogynist, a racist, a xenophobe, a fraud/conman, a sexual predator, and a disgrace to humanity. The election campaigns, the debates, even the agendas have made a mockery of the system.

The candidate in line to become a president represents and carries with himself the ideas propagated by the party. Every word that comes out of Trump’s mouth says a lot about the Republicans. This is not about the election, or pitting Hillary against Trump and judging who is the lesser of the two evils. This is about smearing the name of democracy and debasing the ideals of basic human decency. Trump  is a bigoted a man on the path of ruining a nation, disclosing the roots on which America stands.

The United States of America, where people come from around the world to give reality to their American dreams. The Superpower; the first world; the developed nation. A nation where people are proud of their achievements, their status and often look down upon others. A melting pot that claims to embrace people in spite of their race, sex, or culture. The land of the free and the home of the brave.

There is another America, where a rapist is forgiven because the “twenty minutes of action” could ruin his career. Where the protectors of this world walk around shooting a man/woman because they are Black. It is the same America where kids bully and beat up a child because he is a Muslim. This nation chooses this joke of a man to join the presidential race. A reality TV star with zero or minimal experience of politics. A man with temperament of a spoilt 4-year-old kid.

Trump has nothing better to do at 3 am in the morning than to tweet about his opposition in derogatory terms. The hours that could be used for coming up with means to “Make America Great Again”. By ‘great’, I refer to the definition in Oxford dictionary, and not the Trump edition. The presidential candidate proposes to build a wall to keep the immigrants from entering the country. Ironically, his own wife, Melania Trump, worked as an undocumented model in America. He insults the slain American soldier, Humayun Khan’s, parents and their sacrifice. He further questions Mrs. Khan’s silence as a result of her being a Muslim and the restrictions of the religion.

Donald Trump is a man who says he has sacrificed a lot to be here.

You heard it right, the one who was born with a silver spoon. With his fortune, he creates the Trump foundation, the Trump tower, and the Trump University, a front for his numerous frauds. He claims he is smart for not paying federal taxes, because that is just the thing to do. He even questioned the current President Barack Obama’s birth certificate and claimed that his real name was “Barry Soweto”. Later he came out and agreed that Obama is in fact an American citizen, throwing the blame on Hillary Clinton. Again.

One could go on recounting every scandal this man has swept under the rug. However, the cherries on top of this delicious cake are his comments about women. A few of his accusations are – marital rape of his ex-wife, Ivana Trump, groping Jessica Leeds, and attempting rape on Jill Harth. He referred to deaf Marlee Matlin as ‘retarded’, and expressed fury at a lawyer who asked for a break to pump breast milk by saying, “You’re disgusting”.

This is not even close to the most deplorable words that come out of his mouth. A man who said in 2006, on The View, “if Ivanka weren’t my daughter perhaps I’d be dating her.” This comment was laughed away by the women present on the show, including his own daughter. Leaked tapes of him with Billy Bush have resurfaced where he proudly discusses sexual assaults on women that he can simply “grab them by the p****“. While the Today show fired Bush, Trump is still in the running. Worst is his defense strategy, the ‘locker room talk’ excuse or his son Eric Trump’s that his father “bragged because of his alpha personality“. This could-be president of the United States has been accused of making paedophilic comments about a 10 year old, and is on trial in December for raping a 13-year-old girl.

To think that his supporters were not aware of his predatory nature that echoes of rape culture would be sheer ignorance. Trump started his campaign by referring to women as ‘Fat. Pig. Dog. Slob. Disgusting animal.’ He has gone from criticising women for their looks to claiming that, a woman should be “punished” for having abortions. He further plans to defund Planned Parenthood. His notorious rant on Rosie O’Donnell and Ariana Huffington calling her “…disgusting, both inside and out” are well known.

The elections have sparked interest of people all over again, where certain statistics claim that Trump can win easily if women do not vote. What followed was the twitter trend demanding the repeal of the women’s right to vote, #RepealThe19th – a clear referendum on male entitlement.

Words are not enough to describe his behaviour towards his opponent, Hillary Clinton. Disagreements and arguments between opposing candidates is nothing new but degrading someone due to their sex is crossing a line. In a tweet, he accuses Hillary of not being able to satisfy her own husband, implying she cannot satisfy America as well. Instead of holding substantial discussions about her policies, he constantly points towards her husband, Bill Clinton’s, scandals. Referring to her as ‘Crooked Hillary’ is evidence enough that Trump has no respect for women. An addition to his disrespect towards the position he is running for, the party he represents, and his nation. A visual of his male chauvinism was clear in the first presidential debate where he consistently interrupts Hillary.

The above reality of the man that Donald Trump is, should be more than a revelation but not to his own female supporters. Alas! There are still women who deliberately choose to ignore this man’s misogyny and cringe-worthy remarks. A majority of these women oppose Trans-neutral bathrooms but are apparently okay with Donald Trump as the president. In her constant attempts in bringing to light his degenerate attitude, Michelle Obama’s speech discusses the issue of rape culture. The sexual predatory behaviour he espouses is enough to “shake her to the core” but Trump’s female supporters barely feel a nudge.

To those making claims that this is America’s problem, are delusional.

This man has already won, whether he becomes the president or not. He brought to light the xenophobia clearly persistent in the hearts of many Americans and elevated sexism to an all-new level. The years of struggle wiped out at a moment’s notice. He has made it acceptable for a white cis male to propagate his racist and misogynistic ideas.

The world is watching, and they are having a laugh at his expense, even though indulging in the same attitude at some point. It is easy to brag about being a citizen of the first world but supporting this disgrace is a huge slap in the face of America.

All the while hiding behind a smartphone or a laptop, Trump must be coming up with yet another lewd, derogatory remark, which will make “America Great Again”. Another gross tweet, another reason clearly demanding his exit from the elections.
